you've heard me talk about paige pretending she's derek brauch and russell martin. now kobe bryant, "a football player" and the gardeners have made it into the mix. sometimes she's an entire team (e.g. "mama - i'm the dodgers" or "mama - i'm a laker"). she assumes these personalities several times a day, switching them up at random. whenever she's "in character" she runs crazily around the house, falling and screaming and kicking her legs out - and very randomly blowing wet raspberries. not sure what that's about.
my mom pointed out that she never takes on female personas - only male - and i've noticed that the males she chooses are larger-than-life athletes and/or guys who've made her nervous (the gardeners, for instance). it's a very exciting group of guys, for sure. i think she may use this role play as a way to work through her worried feelings, make these big guys seem less scary?
another way she works through her worried or scared feelings is by asking me to sing about certain things. lately i've been singing a lot about the tree that fell down last winter across the street from her preschool. sometimes we go look at the hole in the ground where the tree used to stand, and when we do, i always have to hold her and she makes these little worried sounds. but she's still drawn to it. it's so fascinating.
