the artiste

grant is now officially a professional artist. he set up shop on our sidewalk this past sunday, selling his animal and dinosaur drawings for 25 cents each. it was a bit touch and go at first - i think he had envisioned excited throngs of customers, and when they didn't show, he started getting frustrated. but once he made his first sale to a woman getting into her car, he was hooked. he made a solid $4.25 in about an hour and half. not bad!

my favorite customer was this big macho-looking guy in an imposing, black F-150 truck who drove past us, circled the block to come back, pulled up and said, "i want to buy the scariest dinosaur picture you have, buddy." we told him that most of grant's dinosaurs were rather friendly, but what about this awesome picture of cheetahs hunting on the savannah? grant handed it to him through the passenger window and the guy sorta jumped in his seat and said, "wow - this is so scary! i'm going to put it in my truck window to keep the bad guys away!" he gave us a dollar bill, and when i went to offer him change he said, "no way - this picture has cheetah stickers on it. it's well worth the money." what a guy.
