grant passed his "survival 2" swim test last weekend, which involved him jumping in the deep end of the pool and swimming the full length all by himself, mostly on his back with his arms over his head but rotating face down in the water every few seconds per his instructor. he got a blue ribbon and everything. now it's on to stroke school. i am 100% confident that grant could now fall in a deep pool and survive. phew. one big parenting goal checked off the to-do list.
another goal accomplished that i really had very little do with: paige is potty-trained. before our trip to new hampshire we were struggling down the potty road with sticker charts and occasional successes. i'm not sure what happened in paige's brain when we were back east, but somewhere between boston and manhattan beach paige decided she wasn't going to wear diapers anymore, and she hasn't looked back. it's been hello kitty and disney princess panties ever since. it amazes me. she even wakes up in the morning and from naps with dry diapers (i still put diapers on her for sleeping, just in case - though i really don't have to). hooray for paige the potty princess!
