oh, petunia. poor thing doesn't get much - if any - attention in real life, let alone here on the GAGA. but today i am devoting an entire post to our pooch.
last night, somewhere around 10pm, petunia jumped our gate. our 8 foot gate. and it wasn't the first time. ever since our gorgeous, single, dog-whispering, actress neighbor moved in, petunia has been jumping about twice a month in an attempt to go play over there. or live over there. we're not sure. i half expect greg to start doing the same thing soon.
anyway, last night was yet another attempt. usually we hear her jump and run out in the front yard to either find her balancing like a shakey tight rope-walker on the top of the fence, or she's already over and up on our or alison's porch. she never goes far and always comes back.
last night, we didn't hear her. so it wasn't til around 12:30am when we went to bed that we noticed she was missing. greg drove around the neighborhood with no luck. we left the gate open thinking surely she would return by morning after a fun little joy ride around the hood.
no such luck.
at 8am, right when they open, i call animal control. "what color dog is she?" "caramel and white." "what breed?" "pit bull." "where do you live?" "meadows and marine." "yep, we've got your pooch." THANK GOD! "yep, she must be a really sweet dog too because the lady who found her left her number and asked us to call her if no one claimed her because she wanted her."
as i was putting the kids in the car on the way to pick tunes up this morning, the woman who had found her was either super-coincidentally walking her dog in front of our house at that very moment...or was stalking us. anyway, she was out front and said that she'd found a dog in front of our house last night who didn't have tags on (i take them off at night - too jingly). she didn't know who she belonged to and petunia had started licking her hand so she called animal control rather than letting her run off and get hit by a car.
(this is a lot longer and more detailed than it needs to be.)
long story short: petunia jumped, hung out in the front yard as is her usual MO, was picked up, jailed and retrieved. phew!
