paige & the pits

with greg in trial out in pasadena for the next 4-6 weeks, i've been busy planning fun outings for me and the kids on the weekends so we stay distracted and don't drive each other nuts. this past saturday, i had planned a trip to the getty museum with nana. as we got into the car, i reminded the kids where we were going.

paige:  we'll get to see bones and mummies!!! hooray!!!
me:  no, this is an art museum. we're going to see beautiful paintings and they have pretty gardens to run around in and...
paige:  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! (+ shrill screeching as only paige can elicit.)
me: ???
paige:  I WANT TO SEE BONES AND MUMMIES!!!!! NOT ART!!!!! BONES!!!! (+ more shrill shrieking.)

so evidently, for paige, it's not a proper museum if it doesn't have bones, mummies and/or other evidence of death. art museums are not exciting enough for miss paige. she wants "horse bones!!!!!!!" at the very least.

thank goodness for nana, who i immediately called from the car. "mom, we have a problem. paige wants to see bones and mummies but i don't want to take her to the museum of natural history AGAIN." she suggested the la brea tarpits (bones galore) which is right next to LACMA (mummies). perfect.

paige was fascinated by the tarpits, specifically the large, dramatic statues of a "daddy" mammoth stuck in the tar as the "mommy" and "baby" mammoths looked on. we had to walk over to this area a few times and of course when it came time to eat our picnic lunch we had to sit next to the mammoths so paige could gaze upon them and ask me, over and over again, "mama, what is the daddy woolala-ee mammosses saying?"
