i was talking with grant yesterday about school when he revealed to me that he's not really the Big Man on Campus that i thought he was. that title seems to fall to a boy in his class named landon. landon has buzzed hair, wears his older brothers' big, baggy clothes, and has wayyyyy funner games up his sleeve.
me: so...at recess, do you guys play other things besides "get the girls?"
grant: yeah. sometimes i want to play other things. i'll say "let's play batman!" but then landon always has a funner game to play so we play that instead.
me: what kind of games does landon like to play?
grant: games like sabertooth dogs.
me: ???
grant: batman isn't as fun because in batman we're good guys and we have to save the girls. but in sabertooth dogs, the boys are all sabertooth dogs and we chase the girls. it's so much funner, mom.
[we have obviously entered the boy-chase-girl phase. every time i pick him up from school lately, his group of 5 boys has some poor - yet very pleased - girl as a hostage of some sort. i remember playing boy-chase-girl in elementary school. we had a big tree that was our "safe zone" where the boys couldn't get us...but of course hanging out at the tree was BORING so we'd slowly, teasingly meander away, making sure the boys saw us so they'd chase us back to the tree. what excitement!]
